head in the clouds
Shutterfly Was once a competitor to Snapfish, but a few years ago there was a merge that had happened and rivals became one. With an aligned vision, some of the challenges felt the same but also different at the same time. Although time spent unified did not last entirely long, it was what carried into the start of the global pandemic and many new problems to solve came from that as well.
Time here didn’t last extremely long, but it was valuable nonetheless with Snapfish work being mainly in the Mobile App space, there were chances here to work on many other new projects. The main project to tackle was an important one. This time it was the photo library, but for the main website. While it never fully made it to production, the thought and structure behind it had every intention to, as well a useful exercise in user experience to tie together many various existing products to unify them into one cohesive one. Also in a time of economic uncertainty, there was and has been an emergence of alternative ways to pay for things.
Brands that started to take shape in this space such as afterpay were becoming not only viable options for e-commerce platforms to introduce to their products in order to meet customers where they are/were at in giving the more accessible ways to pay. While these tools seem somewhat more of a commonplace nowadays for slightly larger or more expensive purchases, but at the time right before the pandemic is when some brands started to look at integrating them in. Being able to oversee what that looked like for this brand was an exciting exercise and opportunity to become further familiarized with with these types of services as well.
At times, too much process can be overwhelming. In this case, even though time on this project was short, a lot of variation was looked into when re-imagining the user’s photo end editing capability.
